Godly Play Returns August 25 at the 10:15 service

All children, age 3 through fifth grade, are invited to join us for Godly Play, a Montessori style Christian formation program, on Sundays at 10:15 am. We gather on the playground, have class in the Orange Building Room B, and return to the sanctuary prior to communion during the 10:15 service.

The Godly Play method teaches Christian language and story as a means to know God and to make meaning in our lives. Godly Play is about understanding how the stories of God’s people connect with our own experience and relationship with God.

Godly PlayAt St. James’, we choose Godly Play as a foundation for children’s Christian formation because it is a creative, imaginative approach to Christian formation and spiritual guidance, based upon over 30 years of research and evolving practice. Godly Play allows participants of various ages to make meaning for themselves by inviting them into stories and providing space to connect Scripture with personal experience and open-ended response. It nurtures us to larger dimensions of belief and faith through wondering and play. Godly Play values process, openness, discovery, community and relationships. Godly Play models the worship life of the Episcopal Church through deeper understanding of stories, symbols and rites.
