On Saturday August 10, St. James’ will join with Episcopalians from other affirming churches to march in the PRIDE parade. This Sunday, there will be people ready to sign you up after all services. Here are the details:
This is the biggest Austin Pride Parade yet with 151 contingents of marchers. We’re #120.
First thing first, the parade kicks off at 8 PM sharp on August 10th. We’re well towards the back of the parade, so we need to show up at 7:30 *sharp*, and probably expect to wait around a while. The parade route starts from the staging area on San Jacinto just east of the capitol. We turn west down 11th street, then south down Congress and west on 4th, breaking down just past Guadalupe.
We’ll need to stay hydrated, even though this is an evening parade. Lots of water will be helpful.
Parking for walkers will be at 1401 San Jacinto, at State Parking Garage A. Entry should be made on Trinity. Not sure how fast this’ll fill up, so allow extra time, and definitely carpool!
We’re limited to 150 walkers, so please let Rev. Eileen (rector@stjamesaustin.org) know if you plan to attend.
Signs and banners are great – make them if you want!
Dress code/theme: It’s a 70s “Boogie Wonderland” theme, but please do as much or as little (or as none!) of that theme as you want. Come dressed however you like – this is a radically inclusive event.
Prohibited items:
Confetti
Silly String
Air horns
Glass Bottles
Body Armor
Bricks/Stones
Water Guns
Other Projectiles
Lastly, there will be photography and filming, and the event will be streamed on KVUE’s website (not sure about the TV channel as well?), in addition to the 400,000+ spectators. So, if you’re not comfortable being seen, this isn’t the event for you.
