Greetings St. James’ Families!
We are excited for the return of Vacation Bible School on June 6-9. This year’s theme is “The Lord is My Rock”. This is taken from Psalm 18:2 which reads as follows:
The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (NRSV)
The VBS staff is looking forward to exploring this theme with your children, ages 3-5th grade, through the arts. Each day we will discover more about our theme and how it can support us in our faith walk. We will hear stories in the Godly Play format highlighting how “The Lord is {Our} Rock”. Our arts exploration will begin with an exploration of our theme through music. Day two will be an exploration through dance and movement. On our third day we will use drama/theatre. Day four, our final day, we will conclude our exploration of our theme through arts and crafts. A special cookie decoration session will take place, and a closing chapel will be held to bring our time together to an end. If possible, we encourage parents and or guardians to attend for this meaningful conclusion to our VBS week.
The dates for Vacation Bible School are Monday, June 6, through Thursday, June 9, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. Registration is required. Contact Children’s minister, Amber Sarpy, at amber@stjamesaustin.org, for the registration form and daily packing list. All VBS participants need to be dropped off at the playground in front of the orange building. You will need to sign your child in and out each day. Although a light snack will be provided upon arrival, we encourage you to feed your child breakfast, and to provide a light snack that will supplement what we have for lunch.
We look forward to our summertime exploration of our faith life together. Please feel free to contact Amber Sarpy at amber@stjamesaustin.org with any questions you may have.
