St. James’ Annual Kwanzaa Celebration, December 29

On Sunday, December 29, the Kwanzaa karamu (potluck) celebration and candle lighting ceremony, will be held immediately following the 10:15 am service in the Narthex. This family and community event is co-sponsored by the Union of Black Episcopalians – Myra McDaniel Chapter.

Kwanzaa is a seven day African American and Pan-African holiday that celebrates family, community, and culture, with a focus on seven guiding principles, known as the Nguzo Saba: Umoja: Unity; Kujichagulia: Self-Determination; Ujima: Collective Work and Responsibility; Ujamaa: Cooperative Economics; Nia: Purpose; Kuumba: Creativity; and Imani: Faith.

Join us from 11:30 am – 1 pm for singing and storytelling and a celebration of community.
