For some time, a community garden at St. James’ helped to provide some additional produce for the Neighbor 2 Neighbor program, and it brought people together the purpose of creating something new that could feed others.
Under Greg Mast’s leadership, new efforts are being made to revive this garden, but we need you – your hands, your commitment to restore and rebuild. In October of 2019, we deconstructed the raised beds that had fallen into disrepair and disuse and covered the area with plastic sheeting to let it hibernate for a bit.
This Saturday at 10 am, we will pull the plastic cover off and begin prepping the area for planting. This entails uncovering the soil, folding the tarp and stacking the bricks, lining out the planting beds with string, using the new broadfork to loosen the soil, shoveling out the pathways and spreading some cover crop seed.
Join us and bring a shovel and/or rake, gloves, water and lots of energy.
