News from the St. James’ Family

Joan Means Khabele passed away on Monday, October 11. She is the wife of Paseka Khabele, and the mother of Dineo, Inonge, and Letsie “Khotso” Khabele.  An activist and and educator, Joan nurtured in others the disciplines and virtues of cultural sensitivity, patience, tolerance, and courage, which shaped her own character. She was an active member at St. James’, and her voice and her presence will be greatly missed.  Notes and letter of condolence may be sent to the Khabele family at 12902 Stanzel Drive, Austin, TX 78729.  The Visitation will be at King Tears on Friday, October 22, and the Celebration of Life will be at St. James’ Episcopal Church on Saturday, October 23, at 11 am.

On Saturday, October 23, the Wormley, Collins, the Rucker families and Huston-Tillotson University are pleased to host a community memorial service and celebration honoring the late civic leader, philanthropist, and trailblazer Mrs. Ada Cecilia Collins Anderson. Cast members and St. James’ parishioners Bill and Jane Newchurch invite you to the opening of  “The Laramie Project”. This play premieres  Thursday, October 21 at Ground Floor Theatre. It runs through Saturday October 23, with two performances that day. Proof of vaccination is required and masks must be worn by audience members.
