Out of an abundance of caution, we are postponing this event in order to not accidentally introduce the coronavirus to a susceptible population. We look forward to such a getting to know you event in the future. Heritage Pointe neighbors are still welcome to join us at Neighbor 2 Neighbor on first and third Tuesdays.
Saturday, March 14, 9 am – 1 pm
In 2019, Neighbor 2 Neighbor set out to get to know our neighbors from Heritage Pointe, a low income seniors’ apartment complex right across the street from St. James’, better. We received a grant from the Episcopal Seniors Foundation and hired Emily Donahue as our Senior Services Liaison to help us get our feet on the ground, serving economically vulnerable seniors in the east Austin area. We started to make connections on first and third Tuesdays with Neighbor 2 Neighbor participants from Heritage Pointe, through the UBE voter registration efforts, and through the Thanksgiving Dinner for residents.
Now we want you to help us build upon those relationships and get to know an even wider circle of people. Join us on March 14 for an on-the-ground Know Your Neighbor event. Here’s the plan:
9 am -10 am: Volunteers will meet in the Founders Hall for training.
We will prepare you to lead a table discussion at the Meet and Greet, and go door-to-door with the needs assessment.
10 – 11 am: Neighbor 2 Neighbor Meet and Greet in the Heritage Pointe Great Room
We will have coffee, snacks and conversations with our neighbors to learn more about their hopes and needs and how we can build community together. We will ask those who join the Meet and Greet: Who else do we need to talk to? Can you connect us?
11 am – 12:30 pm: Neighbor 2 Neighbor Door 2 Door at Heritage Pointe
Volunteers will fan out into the apartment complex to connect with people referred through the Meet and Greet. These may be folks with less mobility or less current connection to N2N.
12:30-1:00 pm: Regather at St. James’ Founders Hall
Volunteers will regroup in Founders to share the info they gathered and to debrief the experience.
