Tim Miles named Executive Director of Welcome Table

Welcome Table, Inc. offers programs and resources that bring people together for learning, inspiration, sustenance, and friendship. Welcome Table is proud to announce it has named Tim Miles its new Executive Director.

Miles, most recently the Residential / Direct Service Lead at Community Options, Inc. has during his career served many nonprofits in Austin, including Caritas of Austin, Accessible Housing Austin, Blackland Community Development, and Foundation Communities. Miles will be replacing Eric Kennedy, who served as Executive Director of Welcome Table for nearly four years as a volunteer.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the Welcome Table team, and to be a part of the important work they do at this critical time for our community,” said Miles. “The staff and volunteers exhibit a passion for and commitment to social justice, racial reconciliation, and the East Austin community.”

Angela Hall Watkins, President of the Board, expressed how Miles will aid the mission of Welcome Table: “Significant numbers of community members in East Austin continue to be underserved by local health, educational, and social systems. For nearly 10 years Welcome Table has served the growing needs for good nutrition, robust education, and spiritual wellness of children, families, and elderly populations. The upheavals we are experiencing today present opportunities for Welcome Table to serve more people. Tim’s fluency with the City of Austin’s infrastructure and history, along with his passion for uplifting East Austin, is a huge gain for Welcome Table and the communities we serve.”

Welcome Table is currently implementing a year-round version of its Freedom School program, expanding from six weeks in the summer. The Freedom School program focuses on STEAM, literacy, and community for children ages 6-11.  Welcome Table also administers the Neighbor 2 Neighbor program, dedicated to meeting the basic needs of senior neighbors, such as food, utilities assistance, and community.  Through partnerships, Neighbor 2 Neighbor has dramatically expanded its reach to feed hungry neighbors during the COVID-19 crisis.
