Mobile Loaves and Fishes
Saturday, August 3, 9-10 am in Founders Hall
Normally, we gather when we are making sandwiches and serving the street community. This meeting at St. James’ is an opportunity to do some big picture thinking about how we serve and stand with the homeless of Austin.
This is an important meeting, given recent changes at Mobile Loaves and Fishes and the changing approach that the city is taking toward homelessness.
Here are some of the questions we will be thinking about together: – What has our experience been like with MLF? What have we learned? How have we grown? What has surprised us (good and bad)? What do we give thanks for? – What does our congregation hope for with respect to the homeless community of Austin? – What assets does Austin deploy to work with the homeless? to what end? – What does St. James’ bring to that picture?
The work that we do on Saturday will help to inform a larger outreach alignment process this fall.
If you cannot make the meeting, Rev. Eileen and Susan Gezana would be happy to hear from you about any or all of these questions. Your voice matters in this conversation.
Jazz at St. James’
Sunday, August 4, following the 10:15 am service in Founders Hall
This is Jazz at St. James’ big 25th, so we need a big team to bring it all together on November 8-10, 2019. If you are looking to get involved in the St. James’ community, this is a great way to get to know people. Our headliners are booked, and we are ready to get into the nitty-gritty of creating an event that will bring the Austin arts-loving community to St. James’.
