The “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” initiative needs volunteers to help pack and deliver over 10,000 pounds of food and diapers each week to elderly and immunocompromised neighbors in east Austin. Volunteers are needed for…
- Truck unloading on Mondays from 10:45 AM – 12 noon
- Packing food bags on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 8-10:30 AM and 11-2 PM
- Delivering diapers on Fridays from 12:30-4 PM
In order to volunteer on-site at St. James’ Episcopal Church (1941 Webberville, Austin, TX), volunteers must:
- Pre-register for volunteer shifts at tiny.cc/sjec,
- Be between the ages of 18 and 64,
- Have no known exposure to COVID-19 or be caring for someone who may have COVID-19,
- Not be at high-risk for severe illness from COVID-19, as defined by the CDC, and
- Follow safety procedures as instructed.
There may also be virtual volunteer opportunities for people who are tech-savvy and prefer to volunteer from home.
About the program: “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” is a partnership between Welcome Table, Hope Food Pantry, Good Apple, and CapMetro. Welcome Table has hosted a regular food pantry/community center at St. James’ Episcopal Church since 2011. When coronavirus hit, we joined the Stay Home Stay Healthy Initiative to provide free home delivery of non-perishable food and fresh produce to seniors and medically vulnerable neighbors.
