Meet the Preacher for December 18: Addison McMillan

My name is Addison McMillan I am a second-year M.Div student at Virginia Theological Seminary discerning the priesthood through the Diocese of Texas. I was born to a military family in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and grew up all over the country. I returned to North Carolina to attend NC A&T where I received a B.A. in cultural anthropology. After graduation, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After five years of service and reaching the rank of Sergeant I transitioned to the Reserves. I was raised in the pentecostal tradition through the Church of God in Christ (COGIC); however, during my high school years, I began reckoning with my sexuality and the church teaching I ultimately left the church completely. During that time a big piece of my life was missing, and it became a time of deep reflection. During my time in the Marine Corps, my chaplain was an Episcopal Priest, and through him, I was exposed to the episcopal church and fell in love with the tradition of Anglicanism.

Addison is in discernment for postulancy in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas through St. James’ Episcopal Church.
