Chapter 11
In this chapter, Bishop Curry does what Paul does in many of his letters. He is writing to address multiple audiences with multiple viewpoints to affirm some things and to exhort his addressees to some new ways of being.
To whom do you think this chapter is addressed? What habits of mind might commonly define the different groups of addressees?
Bishop Curry is attempting to nudge different groups of folks this or that way – sort of like Paul in his letters. How is he affirming you or nudging you?
Chapter 12
It feels appropriate that we end up on the mountaintop today meditating on hope and healing as we conclude our time with this book and as we hear the story of the Transfiguration. Today in my sermon, I am trying to make a case for listening more deeply to the witness of those often marginalized mystics who have had encounters on the mountaintop.
What has God’s voice spoken to you on some mountaintop in your life?
Where have you stood on the mountaintop as you have read this book?
