Dear People of St. James’,
I want to let you know the exciting news that the Center for Health Empowerment is getting back to work on our campus! As you are probably aware, St. James’ has several key community-serving partners who share our campus with us: the Center for Health Empowerment (CHE), the St. James Child Development Center run by Child Inc, and, of course, our own 501(c)3 Welcome Table.
The pandemic disrupted many things, but we are so glad to see CHE back in action in Founders Hall and the clinic space within it. You will start seeing opportunities to join in the community wellness work of CHE in your e-news and bulletins. Maybe you want to get started this Monday, February 26, with a meditation workshop? Here is the info:
Breathe with Me: Monday, February 26, 1-2 pm
You’re cordially invited to a free mediation class “Breathe with Me,” sponsored by the Center for Health Empowerment (CHE), where we explore the calming power of mindfulness together. Meet in Founders Hall. Bring a mat. All are welcome. RSVP here. Spread the word!
CHE is designing an innovative Wellness Center program that pairs targeted outreach and education with trauma-informed medical care and supportive services. CHE’s sexual health campaigns are informed by and integrated into the communities we serve. Individuals who take part in CHE’s Wellness Center receive the following at no out-of-pocket cost: doctor’s visits, STD screening and treatment, PrEP medication and continuing care, HCV screening and navigation to treatment.
CHE’s programs, policies, and practices are designed to eliminate stigma and barriers to equity. CHE’s services are accessible to all community members in-need, however the nonprofit targets its outreach area and marketing resources to populations who frequently have less access to sexual health resources, especially communities of color, women at heightened risk of HIV, and youth aged 18-24.
We feel that the Center for Health Empowerment’s mission fits well with St. James’ work to set tables of welcome for all people, and we look forward to growing together. Help us spread the word about the good work they do!
