Weekly Groups

Sunday Morning Forum Hour, 9:15-10:10 am in Founders Hall and on Zoom

Welcome to the Sunday Morning Forum! This semester, we will reintroduce you to the New Testament.  We will start out with some intertestamental literature that influenced the Judaism of early Christ followers.  Then, we will explore the New Testament with a focus on Luke, Acts, and Revelation as we shadow the lectionary.
We meet in person in Founders Hall, but if you would like to join us online, you can do, 9:15-10:10 am, through the link on the Calendar page.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study

We do not study the gospel reading for the coming Sunday like one would study algebra or American history.  Sure, there are times of instruction on the historical context or theological content, but what we really do is bring our lives with all the faith and honesty we can muster to the living Word of God and trust the Holy Spirit to transform us.  The discussion is lively and respectful.  A wide variety of opinions are expressed.  Some are relatively new to bible study and some are veterans.  The Rev. Robby Vickery facilitates the discussions.
The connections are real, and community is formed. These days we are meeting by Zoom, 8:00-9:00 a.m.  The Zoom link can be found on the Calendar page of this website.  If you can only make a portion of this time, you and the others will still benefit from that portion.  If you need help with figuring out how to Zoom, please contact robby@stjamesaustin.org.

Education for Ministry (EfM)

People face the difficult and often subtle task of interpreting the richness of the church’s faith in a complex and confusing world. EfM is a unique four-year certificate program in theological education created by The Beecken School of Theology at The University of the South in Sewanee, TN. In a one-room schoolhouse model, about ten of your fellow St. Jamesians meet weekly for theological study and discussion. You can learn more about the curriculum at http://efm.sewanee.edu. As you might expect, our group also adds a good bit of St. James’ unique flavor to the recipe.

Enrollment for 2024-2025 is closed.

Thursday Theological Reading Group

The Thursday Theological Reading group (TREND) meets on Thursdays, 9:30-11:30 am at Central Market on N. Lamar.

The schedule for Thursday discussions can be found on the Calendar page.
