Youth Service Day – Día de los Muertos Altar 2021
Throughout the year youth will explore ways to serve others, even during a pandemic. We’ll provide opportunities to serve our church and our community with service projects that you can do from home or while masked and safely distancing. Need community service credit for school? No problem! We can help you earn your service hours. Email Simone familyministry@stjamesaustin.org
On Saturday, October 30, youth are invited to join members of Proyecto Santiago from the 10:00 am service to set up the altar in the narthex, commemorating the Mexican religious custom known as the Day of the Dead (el Día de los Muertos), when families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink, and celebration. Photographs, special items of remembrance, favorite food of deceased loved ones adorn the altar, along with colorful flowers and papel picado.
Youth are encouraged to bring and add photographs to altar of people whom they wish to remember.
