Thursday Theological Reading Group: TREND

TREND stands for Theological REading aNd Discussion group, meeting every other Thursday from 9:30-11:30 am online (Zoom link is below).  Our discussions focus on a chapter or two from whatever book we are reading at the time.  Often the material serves as a springboard into broader, still relevant, conversation.   

On September 2nd, we will begin a book by Stephen Prothero: AMERICAN JESUS: How the Son of God Became a National Icon.  At the time he wrote the book, 2003, Prothero was chairman of the Department of Religion at Boston University, where he still teaches.  To quote from the inside flap, Prothero’s book is a “vivid chronicle of the distinctive ‘images of Jesus’ cherished by the American people, and an incisive account of Jesus’ transformation, in Americans’ hearts and minds, from crucified Lord to folk hero, from divinity to celebrity.”   We will be reading and discussing the introduction and first chapter.
