Sunday Forum Hour

Before we jump into reading Bishop Michael Curry’s book, Love is the Way, we will explore the call to discipleship in Mark’s gospel.  Our focus will be on Mark 1:9-20 and Mark 9:2-29, accompanied by the corresponding reflection material in Say to this Mountain: Mark’s Story of Discipleship (accompanying reading).

Mark envisions the disciple’s journey with Jesus as a radical and uncompromising break with business as usual, a stormy crossing of the borders and boundaries that define our social existence.  This journey brings together prayer and action, both of which take us into places where we encounter our brokenness and lack of freedom and find hope in the faithfulness of God.
