About the artist

Julia “Kito” Kirtley is a multidisciplinary artist from Compton, California.
She received her BA in Interior Design from Pratt Institute and is currently based in Brooklyn, NY.

Her motif surrounds abstract renditions of urban architecture – something she refers to as “cityscapes.”
Recycling is also a part of her aesthetic and many of her works use found canvas, mirrors, fabrics and other materials.

Another reoccurring theme in her work is based on the kinetic relationship between sound, movement and painting.
She gathers inspiration from the mysterious underground house dance community, of which she’s documented via photo, video and performance art pieces for over 20 years.

Julia is also an arts educator spending 10+ years working with underserved youth in the NYC Public School System. Her Red Lotus Arts LLC is focused on community healing arts services.
