St. James’ Episcopal Church Music Minister

Job Description

St. James’ Episcopal Church Music Minister will be responsible for its vibrant and diverse Sunday morning music program.  This is a part time position, with seasonal variations.

The mission of St. James’ Episcopal Church is to embody Christ’s love wherever we are by welcoming all to the table for spiritual nourishment to share with the world. The St. James’ music program is grounded in a liturgical music tradition, a firm commitment to congregational singing, and the African-American heritage of the church.  

Music Minister Responsibilities

  • Plan the music for AM Sunday worship service(s) that realizes the vision of the Rector for liturgical seasons and moments.
  • Develop and implement a plan for ongoing recruitment of amateur and professional singers.
  • Conduct regular rehearsal of the choir, promoting the development of amateur and professional singers alike.
  • Instruct choir members on proper singing technique and vocal health.
  • Provide or arrange coverage for piano or organ in AM worship. 
  • Coordinate music for occasional special services.
  • Assist with music leadership for funerals and weddings.
  • Coordinate periodic choir gatherings to support members in this lay ministry.
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process and oversee relevant budget line items.
  • Report directly to and communicate with Rector regularly.
  • Attend periodic staff meetings at the request of the Rector.
  • Participate in Safeguarding God’s People/Children (sexual abuse prevention training) as required by the Diocese of Texas.
  • Adhere to St. James’ Episcopal Church Policies and Procedures.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

$36,000-44,000 annually based on experience and qualifications; plus pension, and PTO.
