Anthony Duane McPherson was born on July 23, 1963, in Austin, Texas, from the union of Clifford and Emma McPherson. He attended public school in the Austin Independent School District, where he received several academic achievement recognitions.
Duane was the prime example of a student-athlete. Much like his dad, he enjoyed the game of basketball. While in high school, he played basketball for the LBJ Jaguars and forged lifelong friendships with three teammates; Nathan, Cedric, and Ed. These four young men were the good “Boyz-in-the-Hood”!
Although Duane enjoyed sports, he always put academics first. After high school he attended the University of Texas where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduating, he was employed with the Texas Department of Transportation for five years before enrolling at Texas Christian University where he received a master’s degree in Business and Accounting. Among his co-workers, Duane was recognized as a reliable, detailed, and trustworthy employee.
Duane had an infectious smile and a HUGE heart. He enjoyed singing in the male chorus at church and was always willing to serve. He donated regularly to the United Negro College Fund because of the principles the organization was founded on. He also gave of his time volunteering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America – Youth Mentoring Program.
Duane is survived by his wife Kimberly; daughter Niajah; mother Emma Margaret McPherson; sisters Lisa McPherson, Wanda (Clarzell) Gilleylen; niece Tiffani McPherson-Hobbs, nephews Ryan and Bryce Gilleylen; uncles Guillermo McPherson, James (Pamela) Jones, Michael (Melinda) Henderson; and a host of cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford McPherson.
