Sharing our Love with Neighborhood Schools

Our prayers go out to the many families at our neighborhood schools who have been thrown for a loop with the Austin school district’s announcement of school closings and consolidations. Particularly affected are three schools with which St James’ has a special relationship: Norman-Sims, Pecan Springs, and the Bertha Sadler Means Academy. Norman-Sims and Pecan Springs have been sites for Freedom Schools and our Reading Buddies program. And, of course, the Bertha Sadler Means Academy is named after one of the founders of St. James’, the inestimable Bertha Means.

As we continue to be prayerfully attentive and active as this process unfolds, let’s make sure the teachers and staff in these schools know that we appreciate them. We want to share our gratitude for their good and earnest efforts and the special care and hard work they have invested in educating our children.

You are invited to bring notes of encouragement for teachers and staff to St. James’ on Sunday, September 15, or stay after the service and write notes with us in the Founders Hall. We will include them in a special care package for each campus. If you are able to assist in the care package preparation (Tuesday 9/17) and delivery (Wednesday 9/18), contact Lizzie Cain Clark for details at lizziecainclark@gmail.com.
