Dear People of St. James’:
One of the beautiful things about being part of a multicultural and multilingual church community is that we have marvelous companions for this spiritual journey. During Hispanic Heritage Month, we highlight some of the gifts of this life that we share together.
Here are some of the ways we are coming together in community during this time:
- This Sunday, Sept 20: At 10:30 am, the service will feature some of the bilingual songs that help us sing together as well as an original composition by Carlos Cordero, an Austin composer who is originally from Venezuela. Following the 1 pm service, during the Hora de Cafe, we will share and reflect on poetry that reflects the nature and essence of Latinidad.
- Sunday, Sept 27: The Rev. Nancy Frausto, Director of Latinx Ministries at the Seminary of the Southwest will be our guest preacher, and we will come together for some conversation during the 12-1 pm hour. Consider joining us at Casa Marianella from 5-7 pm for our misa and convivio.
- Saturday, Oct 3: The Blessing of the Animals, 9:30 am -10:30 am, brings our multilingual community together with intention to celebrate all of creation (including and especially our beloved pets).
- Sunday, October 11: All day we will be celebrating heritage as holy ground and reflecting on the intersecting identities that form us. During the 12-1 pm hour, join us in Founders Hall for a celebration of the food and artistry of Latin America. If you are a part of our English-language worship services but was to join in by bringing food or artesanias from your Latino heritage, get in touch with The Rev. George Porter at as soon as possible.
Of course, we keep celebrating the gifts of Hispanic/Latino heritage throughout the year, but mark your calendars for some of these particular ways to know and learn from one another.
