Dear People of St. James’,
Thanks to the hard work and advocacy of many, Luis Fernando Cabrera is home in time to graduate from high school and to return to his sister and nephew. This is a tremendous blessing and a win for compassion and mercy. This Sunday, we will rejoice in this sign that the Spirit is still at work!
I ask your continuing prayers and advocacy for Dreamers like Luis and his sister, for those who qualified for DACA and those who don’t. For them, home is here! We need a pathway for citizenship for all Dreamers. In the words of United We Dream’s Executive Director, this is not about “charity, but justice. Not temporary relief, but permanence. Not half-measured promises of someday dignity that would subject our communities to second-class status, but a pathway to citizenship that lives up to this country’s promise of a true democracy.” Click here to learn more about how to advocate for Dreamers.
St. James’ will continue to be a place of home and loving, active, and hopeful support for immigrant communities. We are so happy to welcome Luis home!
Rev. Eileen
